FALMOUTH, Maine — The East Hartford, Connecticut, community is in mourning after 19-year-old Joamaliz Orozco was killed in a single-vehicle crash on a Maine highway Saturday afternoon, an accident state police say was caused by hazardous weather.
The crash occurred around 1:57 p.m. on Saturday, January 17, 2026, on the Falmouth Spur, a key connector between I-95 and I-295. According to the Maine State Police, Orozco was driving a white 2013 Subaru Impreza eastbound when the vehicle lost control on the slick roadway, left the travel lanes, and struck a guardrail near the I-295 North on-ramp.
Falmouth Fire and Rescue personnel extricated Orozco from the severely damaged vehicle and transported her to Maine Medical Center in Portland, where she was pronounced dead later that afternoon.
“Investigators believe hazardous weather and slick road conditions played a major role,” a Maine State Police spokesperson confirmed. No other vehicles were involved, and foul play is not suspected.
The tragedy has sent waves of grief back to Orozco’s hometown of East Hartford, where she is remembered as a bright, ambitious young woman with a promising future.
