SUNNYVALE, Calif. — A two-alarm structure fire broke out on the 1600 block of Kirkland Drive in Sunnyvale Wednesday morning, sending a large plume of smoke visible from neighboring Cupertino and prompting a significant emergency response.
The Sunnyvale Department of Public Safety was dispatched to the scene at approximately 10:50 a.m. after receiving reports of an active fire. Upon arrival, crews determined the blaze required a two-alarm response, escalating the incident and bringing additional firefighting units and personnel to the scene.
“We are responding to a two-alarm fire on the 1600 block of Kirkland Dr. Traffic will be disrupted. Please avoid the area if possible,” the department stated in an initial public alert.
Thick, dark smoke billowing from the site drew the attention of residents in Cupertino and other nearby communities, raising concerns about the fire’s scale and origin. Firefighters worked aggressively to contain the blaze and prevent its spread to adjacent structures.
