
VICTORVILLE, Calif. — The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department is investigating the fatal shooting of a 14-year-old boy near Mojave Vista Park, a death that has left the local youth football community in mourning.
The victim has been identified as Jeremy Rosales of Victorville. The incident occurred on Friday, January 16, 2026, at approximately 8:21 p.m. near the intersection of Glen Canyon Lane and Burwood Avenue.
Sheriff’s deputies, responding to numerous calls reporting gunshots, arrived to find Rosales in the street suffering from gunshot wounds. He was transported to a nearby hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased.
The Sheriff’s Specialized Investigations Division – Homicide Detail has assumed the investigation. No arrests have been made, and the suspect or suspects remain unidentified. A heavy law enforcement presence and road closures were reported around Mojave Vista Elementary School and Mojave Vista Park following the shooting.
Rosales, affectionately known as “Tank,” was a player with the SoCal Trojans youth football team. The team announced a candlelight memorial scheduled for Monday, January 19, 2026, at 7:30 p.m. at the TESA facility in Hesperia.
“He was loved not only by his family, but by the entire community,” read a tribute from the team. “Tank was known for his respectful nature and kind heart, always willing to lend a hand or a smile to those around him.”
A GoFundMe campaign titled “Support Tank Rosales’ Funeral Expenses” has been launched by a family friend to help cover unexpected costs. The fundraiser description highlighted his “work ethic and football skills” and the profound void left by his loss.
