BOYLE COUNTY, Ky. — A two-vehicle collision on a rural Boyle County roadway Sunday morning claimed the life of a Burgin man and sent another driver to the hospital.
The Kentucky State Police, Post 7 in Richmond, confirmed that the crash occurred just before 11:00 a.m. on Sunday, January 18, 2026, on Shakertown Road (KY-33).
According to the preliminary investigation, Hector Sanchez, 55, of Burgin, was driving a 2004 Mercury Grand Marquis southbound when two wheels of his vehicle exited the roadway. As Sanchez attempted to correct and re-enter the road, his car crossed into the northbound lane and collided with a 2000 Chevrolet Silverado driven by 67-year-old Ernest Robinson of McKee.
Boyle County Coroner Eric Guerrant pronounced Sanchez deceased at the scene. Robinson was transported to the University of Kentucky Albert B. Chandler Hospital with what authorities described as non-life-threatening injuries. He remains hospitalized.
The crash has sent waves of grief through the small Burgin community, where Sanchez was a well-known resident. “His life was one of meaning, connection, and presence,” a family friend said. “His passing leaves behind an immeasurable void for his family and our entire community.”
The Kentucky State Police collision investigation is being led by Trooper Tyler Holt, who was assisted at the scene by multiple local emergency agencies. The investigation into the exact cause and contributing factors remains active and ongoing.
Funeral arrangements for Hector Sanchez have not yet been announced. As the community mourns, they are holding close the memories of a man whose impact was felt far beyond the tragic circumstances of his death.
